Privacy Policy
The short version: Merit has no accounts and no server that stores your training data. Your sets live on your device and in your own iCloud. We cannot read them, and we would not want to.
1. Overview
Merit ("we", "us", or "our") is a strength training analytics app for iOS, made by Perpetual Motion. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and your rights regarding that information.
2. No Accounts, No Tracking
Merit does not require an account, a sign-up, or an email address. The app contains no advertising and no third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not sell personal data to anyone.
3. Your Training Data
Where it lives: The workouts, sets, body metrics, and preferences you enter are stored locally on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, this data also syncs to your private iCloud database so it survives device loss and app deletion.
Who can read it: Your private iCloud database belongs to your Apple ID. It is encrypted and managed by Apple, and we have no ability to access, read, or export it. Your training data never touches a server we operate.
Deleting it: You can delete individual entries or your entire history inside the app. Deleting the app's iCloud data from your device's iCloud settings removes the synced copy as well.
4. Natural-Language Logging
Merit Pro offers an optional quick-log feature (rolling out after launch) that turns a typed phrase, for example "bench 225 for 8", into a structured set entry. When you use it, the text you typed is sent over an encrypted connection through our stateless relay to Anthropic, our AI service provider, and the parsed result is returned to your device. If you never use quick-log, nothing you type ever leaves your device.
The relay keeps no database and stores nothing. The text is used only to parse your entry, is not used to train AI models, and includes no identifying information about you. Every number Merit shows you is computed on your device by Merit's own engine, never by an AI service.
5. Purchases
Payments for Merit Pro are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat, a subscription management service, to validate purchases. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app-generated identifier and purchase receipt information. It does not receive your name, email address, or training data.
6. Apple Health
Merit does not read from or write to Apple Health.
7. Strength Standards
Your rank is computed on your device by comparing your lifts against published strength standards bundled with the app. Your bodyweight, sex, and age are used only in this on-device calculation and are never transmitted to us.
8. Children's Privacy
Merit is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Your Rights
Because your data stays with you, exercising your rights rarely requires our involvement: you can view everything the app knows in the app itself, export your full history as CSV at any time, and delete it as described above. If you have any privacy question or request, contact us.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if a new feature changes what the app handles. We will note significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page.
11. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us. Messages sent through the contact form on this website are delivered to us by Resend, our email delivery provider, and are used only to respond to you.
